Xnet HSI Broadband FAQ
An 'Always on' permanent ADSL connection to the Internet means that you can surf and talk on the phone at the same time, you are always connected. With Faster Downloading Speeds you will never be waiting impatiently again!
Q. What is Broadband?
A. Broadband is a high speed Internet connection that allows you to surf the Internet, get your email and download files at up to 50 times the speed of a standard dial-up connection. Internet speeds greater than 256kbps are defined as broadband. This is approximately up to 6 times faster than a normal dial-up connection.
Q. Why Should You Get Broadband?
A. Surf the internet up to 50 times faster than a 56k dial up connection! Pay no excess charges, just one low monthly price! Permanent connection which means no more dialing up! (This applies if you use an ADSL/Jetstream router rather than modem.) Surf the Internet and receive phone calls at the same time!
Q. Will there be any outages when transferring to Xnet broadband from your existing service provider?
A. We can not guarantee there will be no outage however we will ensure the cut over period is as short and smooth as possible. We will provide you will a dial-up account during this period if necessary.
Q. Which Xnet plan suits your needs?
A. We have two fantastic plans to choose from:
Xnet River Full Line Speed* down / 128Kbps up High Speed Internet plan - For people who want the freedom of downloading programs or music without going overboard.
Xnet Flood FLS* down / FLS* up High Speed Internet - For people who want to download anything and everything including the kitchen sink!
* FLS - Full Line Speed or as fast as the physical line will allow based on ADSL1 technology. Actual speeds will vary: On plans that have an upload speed limit of 128Kbps, the download speed will be limited to a maximum of 4Mbps. This is the case for any Internet service provider offering these types of plans. Other external factors such as exchange/cabinet congestion, the distance and size of the servers you're accessing, and the physical quality of the copper cable running to your house can also play a part in the individual speeds you'll receive. To upgrade to ADSL2+ (where available) please visit our Xnet Fusion pages.
Q. What data traffic is accountable?
A. Xnet Stream, River & Flood plans measure all National & International usage. Local traffic is not measured. This means that your Email, Xnet VFX (Voice over Broadband) & Xnet hosted content and game servers (such as Recoil & Gameplanet) do not count against your overall usage.
* FLS - Full Line Speed or as fast as the physical line will allow based on ADSL1 technology.... see answer above.
Q. What happens if I wish to purchase more data after being restricted to 64k/64k?
A. You can purchase more data via the 'Your Account' section on the website. Please note data accrued at 64k/64k prior to purchasing is counted towards your total data used.
